I need help on my 94 z28. Tranny problem
ORIGINAL: Alih
is the tranny auto or manual ?
as for the over heating, yes one it could be the thermostat, if you wanted to check if it was working you can always pull it out, and put it in a pot of boiling water and see if it opens at 180, it could be old coolant
and if the fans arent coming on, check the fuses, and see if the wires are connected under the hood on the left side of the car, the connecting tips could be corroded
there are two fans, a high and a low, the low should come on anytime the a/c is activated and when the car reaches about 200 degrees

Two, theres no point putting the T stat in boiling water, for what it takes and the cost, id just change it anyways... its a 8 dollar part...
Three, It wont be a fuse problem with the fans kicking in at redline temp... if it was a fuse, they would not kick in at all... Not trying to insult you, just had to point out the obvous...
Ok, as for the fans, I beleive that it IS thermostat related, if it is one that is rated at too high a temp, or if it is not working properly, then its not going to let the coolant flow soon enough for the motor to start cooling down, in which case it WILL go to the redline temp, and them the computor tells the car to start the fans... So its probably just a T stat... If you live in a warmer climate, id recomend a 160- 180* T stat... nothing higher, factory uses the same T stat no matter where you live, so if the car was built here in Canada, then it will be fitted with a factory 195* T stat, which is too high for most places.
As for the Tranny not downshifting, the bands inside it could be misaligned, or the tranny fluid could be old and breaking down. Dont always listen to the seller saying it was rebuilt, sellers will say anything to sell a car... get it checked.

well i suggest doing all the fluids and by the way it doesnt do anything manually shifting a automatic, especially since yours is electronic, the computer will automatically shift it to the next higher or lower gear

I put a new t stat in it to day.(180 degree) And it cured the over heating problem.
Tranny problem: THE TRANNY DOWNSHIFTS FINE. IT WONT SHIFT FROM 1ST TO 2ND UNLESS I LET OFF OF THE GAS AROUND 2100+ RPMS.
Unless its shifting to 3rd and i have no 2nd gear. But the tranny shifted fine when i test drove it before i bought it and worked fine on the way into town. but started that on the way home. So IDK
A local tranny repair shop is going to check it out for free tomarrow.
