Default New here and have a tranny problem.

To start off i own a 1976 camaro, engine and tranny are originial. Well my automatic Transmission crapped out on me, as i was driving about 2 months ago, and i havent looked at it i just assumed, im going to need a new one or to rebuild it....i wanted to see what you guys thought might be wrong with it, Well it started acting up the first 2 days we got snow, it startedshifting latebetween pretty much all gears, it would eventually shift right before redlining, and as i was driving it it just gave out on me, so i had it pulled to my house, but it still engages in park, as when we tried pulling it i put it in park without realizing it and it wouldnt budge....if that matters. Any thoughts?

park will always work unless the little lock tab breaks off. all the other gears are powered by clutch packs(steels and partical plates)

you can get rebuild kits, i got one for my th 350 and am in the middle of rebuilding it myself(so it only cost me the amount for the kit, to keep it cheap)

the rebuild is very straight forward, take everything out, clean and inspect the case, and put everything back in the way it came out.

it sounds like a modulator valve problem

So if I fix adjust the modulator valve, would this fix everything or is the transmission already busted up?

i'm no pro on tranny's,but if you unhook the vacuum line going to the modulator, you should be able to drive it and shift thru the gears manually,if it shifts alright manually, then i would say it is the modulator or a bad vacuum line or loose line.

you have to shift it manually.drop it in 1st shift to 2nd by hand then shift it to 3rd by hand.i know it will do it because i used to do it.
