all over the differential and moving towards the front of my car. i dont know the exact name for the part, but it connects to the differential ...

Rear diff leaks don't move forward. Unless you drive backwards everywhere, the oil will leak down and to the rear of the car. Your description of the leak is a bit vague to me, could you be more specific maybe post some pics of what you're talking about? You had me thinkin pinion seal untill you said it was moving forward.

That looks like a pinion seal leak to me. Is there any signs of leakage from in front of all that gunk? Check that pinion yoke for groving on the seal surface, if there is any replace the yoke along with the seal. Use an impact gun to R&R the yoke and run the pinion nut down till the socket stops no tighter than that or you will add more preload to the bearings and burn them up.

yea there was a lil of that stuff on the frontal part...but not nearly as much as in the rear...
