Default coolant temp gage inop

The coolant gage in my 95 Z28 LT1 does not move.

This began a few days ago, and after I had the alt out.

I am broke and own no test eqpt. Any help is appreciated!

Ideas? When I replaced the water pump last year, I used the existing temp sensor...

The LT!1 used two temp sensors, one for the gage on the driver side head, and one for the PCM on the water pump. The one you are interested in is the one on the head, at it only has one wire, Unplug the wire from the sensor and connect it to a good ground. Turn the engine on, if the wire and gage are good, the gage will show full hot. This indicates the gage and wiring are good and that the sensor is probably bad. If the gage does not move, it is a good indication that the problem is with either the gage or the wiring, and that the sensor is most likely good.
