I have a 94' Z28, and I need a little help with a problem. I had my power programmer hooked up to it and the battery on the programer went dead. So i had to change the battery in it and now it wont work with my computer and my car wont start. So i called up hypertech and they said that the only way to fix is to get the computer flashed by a dealership or buy a new computer, and I have to buy a new programmer. Does anyone know any alternatives? or is this the only thing I can do?

 

That's weird. The only programmer I've owned, didn't use batteries... Just the power from the car. They are correct. You're pretty much screwed about that. I'm glad I have my HPTuners.

 

That sucks!! Was this a new programmer? If so shouldn't Hypertech have a warranty for something like this? Or at least be willing to lead you in the right direction.

 

Hypertech warns about the battery on the programmer going dead and the computer getting all messed up. Call your local Chevy dealer, or some shop with a Tech 2 scanner, and get the PCM reflashed. Then forget about that hand held stuff and get yourself a tuning program that runs off a laptop.

EDC ("Engine Data Collector") is a special adapter, developed by Q-Branch. This small device connects to the car engine's sensors (rpm sensor, fuel injector, speed sensor, battery voltage). This allows more exact measurements than by using the standard OBD output. EDC-1 can also be used on older vehicles, that do not have OBD connector. The connection to the car sensors is high-impedance and does not interfere with vehicle's operation at all.
