If it is the original engine, with only 34,000 km on it, it definitely wasn't driven much. If it was only driven on short trips a few months out of the year, then it is possible that the moisture that is present inside an engine didn't get completely dried out and some of the internal engine parts could have been damaged. Not too likely, but it is possible.

If the whole car is original, I would suspect fuel pump, fuel filter or ignition parts are just plain old and starting to go.

When was the last time that the car was given a general ignition and fuel system tune-up? Do you happen to know if genuine GM ignition parts were used?

Always try to run premium pump gas if you can find it. Also, a can of Seafoam in the tank once a year can really help to clean out the fuel system.

everything is all original, it has never been given a general ignition and fuel system tune-up, where would you get this done?

you will want to change the oil and oil filter or have it changed, new spark plugs, aire filter and fuel filter. any aoto parts store should have sea foam.

+1 on what Craby said. If you have never given the car a tune up, it is probably desperately in need of one.

Everything you have is 17 years old. That includes the transmission, brake and rear end fluids. You recently changed the oil and had the coolant system flushed, so those are probably good to go.

But the rest of the items on a general maintenance list don't last forever. They can break down slowly over time whether you are driving the car or have it parked in a garage.

Fuel will break down and go stale and turn into a varnish like substance the longer it sits in a tank. This varnish can plug fuel filters, gum up pumps, and plug up your injectors. Seafoam will help to breakup the varnish deposits.

Even though you only have 34K km on it, the sparkplugs, wires, coil and optispark are all 17 years old. It is very possible that your optispark has corroded on the inside and is now delivering a weak or inconsistent spark.

Go with the easy and inexpensive things first. Fuel filter, seafoam, premium fuel. Check the fuel pressure and have your injectors cleaned. If the car isn't running properly after taking care of those items, time to spend a little more money and effort.

Optispark, plug, wires and possibly an ignition coil are in order.

But, before you start throwing money and parts at your car, have it scanned for codes and let us know if any are in the computer.
