thanks for the awesome advise i'll try that and see what happens, sometimes its hard being a car lover and a girl at the same time, most mechanics take advanage of that and rack me over the coals!

That worries me. The oil pressure will only drop in one of two (someone correct me if I'm wrong) situations:

1. You have a leak somewhere. It will be most noticeable under load. When you go to accelerate, it sucks all of the oil out of the pan and can't maintain pressure (this is why firefighters connect fire hydrants to their pump on the truck). This happened to me and it turns out that I had a hole in my oil filter.

2. You have a bad oil pump. That is gonna be a massive PITA to get to, since in order to get to the pump you have to pull the oil pan. And to get the pan off, you have to move the subframe and all the front suspension...

Check your oil level. If its low, add some in there. Then drive the car around (after you fix the overheating of course and given that the oil pressure is within a safe operating range) and keep checking the oil. If it goes down, find the leak. If not, prepare for some expensive work.

And I just want to say that it's awesome that you're a girl driving a Z!!! At least around here, all the girls are either too "girly" to want to do anything with their cars other than drive them ("daddy" will pay to get it fixed if I drive it 20 miles missing half the oil capacity!!), or they drive Mustangs ...

oil was just changed, by the mechanic and it is still happening

well first thing now i think is i'm going to throw her on computer to check if all her sensors are working properly, then leaks, then clean out rad with water flush check for leaks, then change thermosate to better, then oil pump and filter

Take a good read of this page, and you will understand why the low oil pressure is worrisome...

Troubleshoot Low Oil Pressure

HOWEVER

Before you freak out, I just thought of one thing that could cause that problem, as I had it with my 95 3.4L WAAAAY back when; check your oil sending unit to see if it is working. That could cause the gauge to read low as well.

Hope its the latter rather than the former. Let us know how it goes.

Are the fans coming on when it gets hot idling in the driveway? Do the fans come on when the AC is turned on? If the engine stays cool at highway speed and overheats when stopped, it means the radiator is not getting enough air to cool things down.
If the fans are coming on, then you need to make sure all air is purged from the cooling system, and make sure the radiator is not partially clogged. Feel the radiator fins, they should be the same temp top to bottom, if a section feels cooler, it indicates that the tubes in that section are clogged.

Agreed. However, I don't know if its just me, but I would be MUCH more concerned about the low oil pressure. That can kill your engine in less than a mile. You may ask why I am so concerned about it. Well, I will show you why: (They are videos. Click on them)




That started to happen.

I ended up needing a new motor. That was after about 3 miles of driving it after the low oil pressure light came on...

Bcbarbie, get the oil pressure thing fixed before anything else, or that will happen to you...

yah your right, i will check the engine oil pressure thing out first, just a huge **** off
not sure if fans are coming on either, so shes going to the doctor for sure!

An overheated engine will normally cause the oil pressure to drop. Hot engine cause the oil to thin out and the oil pressure will drop. How much depends on the condition of the engine, how hot the engine gets, and the type and viscosity of the oil used. Get the overheating condition fixed first as it may be what is causing the low oil pressure.
