Default 1997 LT1 motor rattle

my 97 camaro has 106000 miles on it now and the lt1 is all stock except for a k and n cold air intake. when ever since for a couple of hours and then your fire it up it has a little knock in it for a second then goes away. i think its a lifter bleeding off, but i dont know. if it is can i get the top end of the motor off without pulling the motor?

Your lifters could be gummed/gunked up, causing the tick. Try changing to synthetic oil, as it does a better job of cleaning out (and keeping clean) the innards of the engine. Been there, done that, got results.

to craby- its a little knock when i first fire the engine. i have great oil pressure. im using 10-40w oil and a fram oil filter.

to camaro69- ill give it a try the cars needing a oil change anyway right now.

purolator, napa gold are good. the one fram uses a metel bypass that fails, have also read that fram filter has been known to go to pieces and plug oil passages. best way to see the difference is to cut a couple open and see.
