Default True Dual Exhaust

I need to replace my exhaust sometime soon and had a question about how loud the set up I had in mind would be. I plan on using some Hooker Super-Comp full length headers going into three inch true duals with dual cats and dumping it at the axle. I currently have no muffler on my car (it rusted off) and it's not loud enough to bother me. So how loud do you think it would be in comparison?

Loud enough to set off car alarms in the least. Not much quieter than open headers, to give you a little perspective, when I started my car with open headers it was loud enough just idling in my garage that it was making the concrete floor vibrate...

Gee, mine vibrates the floor normally. You say that like it's a bad thing!
Yeah, it's gonna be loud.
I'm curious though, where you're going to stuff two cats with a 3" system and dump it all at the axle? If you're talking left-side right-side duals, you're going to be hanging pretty low.
And how much power is your engine putting out? Generally, a 3" exhaust isn't advantageous until you're putting out 400 h.p. and above.

Oh open headers and vibrating floors is fun in small doses, but driving an hour down the highway with your exhaust rattling you brains out doesn't sound quite as pleasant. [&:]

Yeah, this was just a thought. That's why I was running it past some more knowledgeable people first. That is some pretty big exhaust (especially for a stock LT1 engine), but the collectors on the headers are 3 inches, so I figured I'd just run the same size back.

youre best bet is to run 2.5" all the way back, you dont need 3", and it will give you more clearance. It all depends on the mufflers, i originally used dual dynomax ultraflow mufflers and it was quiet! like toyota prius and i didnt like that at all, but its the best flowing muffler out there or one of the most.

1995 Camaro with an LT1..Although I have been considering dropping in a Chrysler LA small block (specifically a 340).

That's just blasphemy!

You don't need that much flow on a stock LT1, headers a good 3" mandrel bent Y pipe and a 3" cat back will give you enough flow to support ~500 HP, I wouldn't worry too much. There are LS1 cars that are deep in the 11's with that setup, you have a ways to go to need the flow of 3" true duals.

exactly. And mine never rattled the inside of the car, but you can't beat the sound of true duals. But on a stock car, whats the point ? Just get headers and a y-pipe like slvr said.
