Default True dual exhaust on a 3rd Gen,...possible?

Can you put a true dual exhaust system on a 1989 IROC? If so, how difficult is the job? Any cutting or customization involved?

A lot of pain, money and low exhaust clearance for little or NO gains over headers, hi-flow cat and 3" pipes to dual outlet muffler. Oh Yea, you can brag your car has a dual exhaust system but cares..

Summit has a kit that is considered a 'true dual' and includes all the pipes you need (minus header and muffler. Less than 200 bucks. With that being said.....it doesnt fit. The duals are supposed to run side by side, they only fit ON TOP of one another. The kit is about 48,000 little bends and individual sections too. If I were to do it all over again, Id just rin a 3" single the whole length....

+1 on the 3" system. This time around I'm running Hedman 68478's, matching Hedman Y pipe with 2.25" pipes into a modified 3" pipe, 3" Magnaflow High Flow cat, a 3" cat back (haven't decided on the brand yet, probably Hooker.)

My dad owns a shop and put true dual on an 86', seems like he had to wrap it with some header wrap to keep it from boiling the break fluid and fuel in the lines that run down the frame on the driver side.

you could run a set of long tube headers and use a set of flowmaster hushpower mufflers (theyre a flat oval) and 2" pipe and exit on the sides by the rear wheels. it wont pass emissions or inspection in most areas and will likely be damaged by the first speed bump you encounter. but its true duals

Default true duel exhaust

The last thread I read about this someone said to use long tubes and hushpwr mufflers nobody seems to remember that if u loose too much backpressure u will loose some low end torque and last time I checked most 3rd gens will run out of power after 4500 rpms so the point to have this application would work best for a car that is reving ***** deep and most set ups don't like rpms over 6000 rpms the 3rd gen isn't the lightest car made so u need torque on the low side to get u movin.stick with a two chamber flowmaster type muffler a 3in y pipe shorties and high flow cat manufactures make these kits for a reason and that's that there hp tested. Get the most sound and driveability out of this set up. And the tone u really want don't take the cheap way out for a crappy raspy sounding hack job that was never intended for this car.

You'll have big clearance issues. Trust me I know!
