I run a straight exhaust on my pickup with the cat converter.

It had a cherry bomb type muffler on it before. It is atually quiter with the straight pipe.

They wanted 60 bucks for a muffler and 20 bucks for the straight pipe so I took the straight pipe.

The wife has a straight pipe on her astro also. Sounds like crap. Roy

@sprssbalt No i wouldnt need to change the timing from doing that, but you do have the right idear with the carb. The fuel ratio goes a little lean if you run a free flowing exhaust but my car was already a little rich so i think it will just balance it maybe. My car has a cat delete with an open cutout in place and after i got that installed i didnt notice a differance in power at all, its still got a ton of torque.

@RoyBean Take that cat of and it will growl! My buddy done got him a sierra pickup with straight pipes on it and it sounds so good...way louder than a cherry bomb. And yeah it would sound ****ty on an astro.

I was wondering how it would sound compared to my current setup. People on other forums were saying that cutouts are even LOUDER than straight pipes but my car isnt even that loud...it sounds great when i get on it but is really quiet when im driving normal...its too tame. Some of the exhaust still goes through the muffler so i figured it would be more agressive when im cruising around if i replaced the muffler with a pipe. lol what to do....?
I got my X pipe at Hearthrob, it was under $100. It's called a "truck" X-pipe but fits in tight spaces well.

^ I think the OP may have a little trouble getting a 5th gen designed exhaust under his 3rd gen.

^LOL I was thinking the same thing. My idiot friend blew a hole the size of a quarter in his muffler on his Malibu so untill he got his cherry bomb he just drove around without a muffler on it. it all depends on YOUR personal opinion. if you cant afford an "X" pipe yet, and you like the sound of no muffler, do it till you can get an "X"

Oh great, they deleted the exhaust spammer who was above my last post. Now it looks like I was talking to myself. Huh, who said that?
