350 Heads?
My Father inlaw owns a salvage yard and i have found a set of 350 heads that have a casting number 333882 when i looked them up online it said the intake port was 1.94 and exhaust was 1.5 with 76cc Now my question is (Not having any idea what those numbers actually mean) Is that good? And Would it be worth my time to replace my old heads which are casting number 14014416 off of a 305 with and intake 1.85 and exhaust 1.5?
Not really a performace head, esp considering you would need to completly rebuild any junk yard head. You want to find a head with 2.02 intake valves. Even then a stock iron head is not going to get you much in the way of real HP. If you are on a budget look into a set of GM iron Vortec heads.
those 882's are junk. The money to rebuild is not worth it for those heads. I would look for a 350 head so that you dont have restricions from the 305. My heads are 416, or 462's I can check. They are good heads. Just keep your eyes peeled. my heads have the 202 intake and 1.5 exhaust? not sure about the exhaust size. I forgot allready.
The problem with vortec is that you need the new intake as well since they will be at different angles. Check those out as well.

1.94/1.6 heads can make a lot of horsepower if you build around them right. look at the edelbrock performer rpm crate motor, that has 1.94 intake 1.6 exhaust heads on it, and they r aluminum which cools better, but doesnt make as much horsepower as iron heads, and it still has 435 horsepower. a cheaper way to increase your horsepower with those heads are to have them shaved. a 76cc chamber is pretty big, if you could shave it down to 70cc, you could make some nice gains.

the 305 head has a smaller compustion chamber so you would loss some comp making the little bit of valve size a wash out .
One thing to think about I do not think a 2.02 valve will fit the bore of a 305 if that is what you have . There s something to say about the new heads and there power ability but at $1200.00 they are bucks up alot of times we forget about how fast we want to go apossed to how much it costs . If the seats are not to set in and the guides tight and you have a cam and intake and headers do a little pocket porting and relap the valves back in and install them on your engine with steel shim gaskets . The way I see it you are not going to set the world on fire but look at the knowledge and self asteam you gained going it your self plus gaining 15-20 HP.

by the time you rebuild a set of junk yard heads, port them , polish them, put new vavles in them, maybe new seats, you might as well buy a new set. One head that is often over looked is the GM Vortec heads, it does require a different manifold but they are pretty cheap and offer very good power gains.
882's and 624's are GM's run-of-the-mill heads. They put them on just about everything that did'nt put out good numbers. if you're on a budget look for a set of 993's or 487X heads, they run respectably on most mild 350 budget builds. If you come across a set of 041's that arent cracked snag em they run bad *** for a factory head, but, you have to run embossed head gaskets.
