New heads or stock heads?
Alright guys I have the 350 roller motor from my friend, I just stripped it to bare block... So now im getting the rotating assemly kit for a 355 setup and want to do 58cc heads on it running around 10.5:1 compression with flat top pistons...
My question is should I buy new heads with a cam kit or should I use the heads on the block and have them ported, I heard of this guy who does the heads who is well known on this site and im not sure who he or they are...
By the way im having the machine shop bore it .030 over to a 355... I figured a 383 bore would leave the walls to thin running into overheating problems...
So what should I do with heads and cam work? well mainly heads because Im most likely getting this:
Comp Cam
"XFI" 280 Hydraulic Roller Camshaft
GM LT1 & LT4 350ci 1993-96
Lift: .576"/.570" w/1.6 Rockers
Duration: 280°/288°
RPM Range: 2000-6000
I own a 96 Z28 OBD-II

you need to do more research before you start in on a build like this.
that said...a 383 and a 355 have the exact same bore...4.030. the stroke is what will make them different. a 383 uses a 3.75 crankshaft and a 355 uses the stock 3.48 crankshaft. therefore, a 383 and 355 are pretty much the same "safe-wise".
there are a couple people out there that are considered the guru's of head porting. lloyd elliott and advanced induction. they can port the crap out of stock heads and get you anywhere you want to be. they can both also help you spec a cam to match your goals.

Yeah lloyd elliot thats who it was... Im thinking about using my stock heads, it would certainly be cheaper wouldnt it?
Another thing is you said I need to do more research, I thought I had it figured out but now im lost again, where the heck do I start? what parts do i need?

im not sure it came out of an early 90 blazer... all I know its a 350 SB roller motor

i was under the assumption we were talking LT1, but since we're not, lloyd elliott won't be much help to ya with your heads. i, personally, would not be putting that motor in your car. i'd stick with an LT1 but to each their own

I am really in the dark in this and I would appreciate some help, I can always go to a machine shop and be like ok here is the money and do it butI dont want to be over charged... I have basic knowledge but when it comes to machine work and rebuilding I know nothing about it... I have the money to do this within the next couple months for the whole setup...

You need to work on that lt1 block and leave the blazer's 350 in the blazer. Simple as that, you are giving me your headache! LOL You will see what i mean if you dont stop while you are ahead still. Beware the sunken costs...dont let them drive you farther and farther in THIS IS YOUR CAUTION>
