Default what clearance is needed for a 383 stroker

I'm doing some research for a powerplant for my camaro, as it has no engine and I've been looking at getting a 350 with a 383 stroker in it. I've heard that there is alot of clearancing involved in it and then I've heard that there isn't much.

Has anyone done this before or can someone enlighten me on this please?

thanks

383 is nothing special. Your just gettingthe 400 SB strokewith a smaller (350's)bore. If you use a production crank then you need to have the journals turned down to fit in the 350's block. The oil pans all fit from 262-400.

Depending on your choice of rods and rod cap fasteners and your block, you may need to do some grinding. I used Eagle H-beams with 12 point ARP bolts. I had to grind away some casting just below the cylinder to clear the rods. It is very easy to do with a die grinder and a metal cutting burr. When done there was .080-.100 clearance to the block.

I really didn't want to go overboard on my engine. I wanted a good driver with at least a somewhat reserved appetite for gas. I used 5.7 rods with speed pro flat top 10.6:1 compression. I use flat tops to keep better control of detonation. This combo left me open for many aftermarket cams. I chose a crane cam with 488-510 lift & 234-244 duration on hydraulic flat tappets. With this setup you can always opt for 1.6 rockers for better breathing. I topped it all off with 195 cc aluminum heads. It's great bragging rights at the curb to have larger runners but unless you plan on spending a lot of time in the upper rpm ranges they are a waste of money. Previous engine at these specs dynoed at 440 hp with 750 holley and a dominator manifold. Current engine has air gap and 750 double pump and better headers, hoping for around 460 hp in the 5400-5600 rpm range.
