Rearend gears
I think he was looking for a little more info Griff. You can do just about any gear ratio you like. Is the car going to be for track, street or a daily driver? You may want to take that into account before making your choice.
Sure they can. You'll have to get a set made for the rear end you currently have. You can look them up on Summit Racing or Jeggs and you know more or less what the price is also. Make sure you have someone with experience do the install as this is not something a novice would want to tackle.
You have a 2-series carrier (also in most cases a open one) now and you can not use your friends 3:73 3-series gears. You can buy thicker gear set for the 2-series carrier, but the question is it worth it??
I might have misunderstood the question... if the question was will a gear set from a 2000 ws6 fit in a 81 camaro rear end then the answer is no because they are two different rear ends the 81 has a corporate 10 bolt with a 8.5" ring gear and I belive the 2000 has a 7.5 or a 7.6 ring gear. The 8.5 is a stronger rearend...
If the question is can I run a 3.73 gear ratio in my 81s 8.5" rear then the answer is yes you just need to get the series 3 posi and the gears to go along with it... for a 8.5 camaro rear end
