How do I tell what rearend gears I have?
I have a 89 Iroc. I know it's a posi because I've left rubber from both wheels.
What I don't know is what the gear ratio is. How can I tell?
Thanks in Advance.

there is an ID code stamped on the rear, but that may not be much help if someone changed the gearing in the original rear.

May have to figure it out the hard way. Pull the rear cover from the rear axle. Count the teeth on the ring gear, count the theet on the pinion gear. Divide the number of theet on the ring gear by the number of theet on the pinion gear, the result is the gear ratio.
Ex: 40 theet on ring, 10 theet on pinion. 40 / 10 = 4.00 ( rear end ratio )
