How much should it cost me for a new belt and thermostat? My dad's friend who's a mechanic said he bought the parts for $100 and then is gonna charge $75 for the installation and my friend said that's way to much.

But it would also help if you post a little more. Serpintine belt or V belts? One belt or four? A serpintine belt in the Goodyear Gatorbacks would be in the area of $30 and a T stat less than $5.
You know what your driving and we don't . Look up parts prices at something like autozone.com

 

Yeah that's exactly what my friend suggested autozone.com and the best is a Serpentine which at most is like what $50?

 

for a fourth gen its 30 for the belt and 5 for the thermo...

 

install it yourself...

the belt will take 1 min, and the thermo will take 15min tops...both are easy for any skill level
