It's a 91 RS 3.1 V6

I've had this problem for a long time now and I don't have the money to spend on a mechanic if it's a huge problem.

What my car is doing:
It's been stalling to start for the longest time now. When I try to start it after it's been off for a while, it just won't start. It'll still make the noise like it's trying to start but only after 5-10 minutes of trying to start it over and over will it start.

It's also VERY loud.. It's a lout louder than it used to be and it's getting louder every week.

When I worked @ Wal-mart, I had a friend who said he used to work on Camaros and he said right away that it was the fuel pump. I really really hope he was wrong and hope someone else knows what it might be.

Also, the dashboard spedometer doesn't work anymore but that's probably just a wiring problem, I don't care about that.

So to sum it up:
It stalls to start up after it's been off for a while and it's loud.

Anyone have any ideas?

 

Is the SES light on? Any codes? Alot of places like Autozone can pull the codes free for you. How long has it been since fuel filter was changed. Have you had anyone check the fuel pressure? I don't think the fuel pump going out will cause it to sound any different. If you are referring to the noise the exhaust makes, I would think maybe time to replace muffler or look for exhaust manifold gasket leaks, cat leaks, etc.

 

what about the car is getting nosiy? after the vechile starts does it run good or does it feel low on power, ive seen the catylitic convertor plug up on those and cause hard start problems because of to much exhaust back pressure, 3.1 also had alot of fuel injector problem if my memory serves me right the should ohm out at 17-21ohms per injector ive seen as many as 4 out of 6 go bad at once, hope this helps

 

sounds to me like a cold start injector (if it has one) or a fuel delivery issue. the noise is probably from your muffler, i bet its rotted out
