Default heat problem plz help

Hi, I haven't posted much before, but tonight I was starting up my 67 camaro and it had some serious heat issues in the headers. The #8pipe heated up to a bright read over about 4 inches passed the bend and then about 30 seconds later the #2 heated up to a bright red color. Could this be cause by gaskets leaking or lack of oil flow to those particular cylinders? From what I could tell it had plenty of coolant/oil/and was fine on the temp guage.I'm afraid to start it up again till I get a little more info as to prevent damaging the engine, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

[X(] while red hot headers may occur while the engine is running hard continuously its NOT normal in low speed or moderate load operation. if this is occuring in just one or a few header tubes id look for vacuum leaks on the intake for those cylinders. if one whole side is turning red then i might look at the carb for a lean problem to that side. the bright red color is a result of higher exhaust gas temps usually brought on by lean air fuel conditions and should not be happening. keep in mind that upon cold startup fuel will tend to puddle in the bottom of the intake and may cause some exhaust temp variations but red is not a color you want to see at this time. kurt
