Default 1989 over heat problem

I have a 1989 camaro and it over heated and busted the radiator. I replaced radiator and replaced the thermostat. still over heats. i thinks its the fan because the fan does not turn on and when i drive down the road it maintains the temperature and then when i stop for about a minute or more the temp rises to over 220 on the gauge. i tested the wireing to the fan it does not even read one volt. im wondering if that would be the problem and if anyone new of how to fix it. all fuses are good. any help would be very much appreciated.

Greg

If your fan motor is good and you can not diag the problem you can get themostats that has a probe that sits inside the fins of your radiator to turn the fans on at a certain temp. Thta way you dont forget.

its not hard at all as long as the fan motor is good one way to check is by gettin a set of aligator clips and hook the one side to the two pins on the mototr and the pther sides to the positive and negative terminals of ur battery. the fan should then kick on. but if you put it on a switch as i did u have to get a 3 post switch one for the hot wire you will run from your batt positive term and the other 2 for the pos and neg of the fan wires. dont forget to hook a ground to the negative post as well. use the existing plug on the fan just cut the exixstin wires about a foot from the plug. splice the new wires you would have to run through ur firewall to these make sure to get the pos and neg right or else the fan will turn backwards. thats how the fan motor works. depending on what wire you hook up changes direction of the fan. any other questions just ask ill be more specific. i have already done this on my car and a few of my friends. the trick is iran my hot wire off of the ignition so i can leave my switch on all the time but the fan wont runn unless the key is on acc or car is runnin so i wont forget to turn it on it runs full time without forgettin to turn it off and drainin the batt.

it's your fan relay that is your problem.. i also had this problem so i hooked it up to the ing. this way it would run when ever the car was on but i didnt like that idea so i run a wire off a ing. wire in the fuse pannel. (ornage wire) the pulled it threw the fire wall to the fan. (black and white wire) grounded the fan to the chassie and i was good.

i had this EXACT same problem that you are describing. Turned out to be a coolant temp sending unit i believe. Mine was under the number 6 cylinder. I accidentally broke it putting my headers on and it got to about 300 degrees, NO EXAGERATION. I got a new one, changed the oil, and everything was fine.

Yours is the proper way to fix the problem. Find out what is wrong and fix it properly & no need for work arounds. There aren't too many things that can keep the fans from working. Temp sensor, fan relay/s, fan fuse, fan motor, or a wiring problem.
