ok so i have a belt in my engine that is located on the right side of the engine (v6) and i dont know what kind of belt it is. its tiny, not the serpentine, and I am 99 percent positive i have a timing chain in my engine and not a timing belt, so what could it be? thanks for the help.

 

the engine is a 2.5 liter v6 that belongs to a 1998 Mercury Mystique LS.

 

Does it maybe turn the air conditioning compressor? Not familiar with that one but I just noticed that I have two belts on my suburban. One serpentine and then a smaller one that runs the AC compressor all hidden with junk on top of it. Imagine that!

I think you are in the wrong forum. Mercury engines are not permitted in Camaros, and such an abomination can get you excomunicated, censured, shunned, etc., depending on your religion or sect. But in any event, open eyes wide, drink a pot of black coffe, take a good look at the belt, and notice to what the belt is connected to. Then you will know what it is used for. If it is frayed, replace it, can't fix bad belts. Don't change the belt while the engine is running. lol
