Default uh... wtf? M6 belt on my A4?

So i bought a new goodyear gatorback belt because i had dont a tension test on my old one and it read that it was gettin alittle loose and my auto tech instructor suggested i replace it. So i go to shucks tell em what year make model transmission etc. and they give me a 635 GY GB belt. well i take my current belt off and it says its a 637... so i try for an hour like a moron trying to fit this damn belt on.. my grandpa andi go down to shucks and ask if they have a belt thats like a 1/2in bigger and the guy comes back with a 637 belt but says its for a manual tranny... Awhile back i had my one of my pulleys replaced after i got a 635 belt.. cant remember if it was my tensioner or drive pulley and i guess the guy who did the work must have gotten a different pulley, found out it didnt fit with the belt i had just bought and so he put on the AC Delco on.. So now id like to know... wat the heck that guy did that changed what size belt i need? i tried everything i left it out in the sun to let it warm up i hung it from the garage ceiling with a 45lb weight in it i held a blowdryer to it even and it still wouldnt go unless i unboltedmy alternator and once i did that i couldnt get it back on...If i can figure out what the guy did i can bring it back and make himput itback together correctly...

Haha! You did what to the belt? Hung it, blow dried it and left it out side in the hopes it would fit afterwards? Sorry to bag on you bro but that's the first I've ever heard of that. When I installed my roller rockers I had to replace the valve covers with ones that the rollers would fit in with enough clearence. Now if you've ever replaced the alternator on your fourth gen then you know that the alternator fits like a glove in that spot and there is no clearence or space for anything else. Ok that being said I had a friend fab up a bracket so my alternator would clear the new valve covers so I went to Autozone and I told them what size I needed since stock lenth would no longer fit and they provided me with the exact lenth I needed. Basicly go to the Auto parts store and tell them what size you need and if they don't know what you're talking about then go to someone who does. You can get just about any size needed. Sorry for the ranting but I felt you needed to know where I was coming from.

The guy at shucks told me set it out in the sun and let it warm up but since its been like 30-60 degrees all week its never really been warm enough outside even in direct sun light.. So i figured if i put the weight in it and applied heat it would stretch like it would in the engine.. im just going to go get a 637 like the one i have on there now.

Well there is your first mistake, never listen to a guy who works at Pep Boys/Shucks/Vato Zone. I also do not see how the car having an M6 or an A4 has anything to do with the length of the belt, the engines and the acc. pulleys are the same.
