Belt Alignment

Belt Alignment
I have an 84 camaro, stock 305 carb'd. I took off the smog pump seeing as it was broken and i'm in NY, and i took my a/c off. when i start the car, it makes a horrendously loud squealing sound that will not go away. i know its not the power steering, i ran it without that. i've been through 3 water pumps, so thats not it. that leaves the alternator. after 10 seconds of running, the pulley is too hot to touch, but the body of it is fine, which leads me to believe it's belt alignment. only trouble is, how do i align them? they both look fine to the naked eye, and the straightedge trick doesnt work because i dont know when its straight. how do i adjust the alignment? i cant drive it like this. thanks for any help you have.
p.s they are both brand new belts

nevermind
i think it might actually be the way i have the belts routed..... one goes around the main, to the water pump, to the alternator. The other just goes from the water pump to the power steering. is that alright? i think maybe the ps needs to run off the main? id anyone can get me a diagram that would be great...if not suggestions are good too thanks
