Default Electrical / Alarm problem causing insanity

I hope someone can help. My son's 98' Camaro (V-6) won't start. When the key is turned the alarm goes off. It's like the car thinks it's being stolen. We tried our other set of factory keys. The starter is OK. The battery is brand new. The ignition and starter relays were checked and they are fine. The neutral switch activated by the clutch pedal has been replaced. I tried leaving the key turned on for 2.5 hours to try and re-set it like you would a radio security code. This is a factory alarm. Is there a way to reset this or has anyone ran accross this issue before? Is there a fuse or relay or ???

Does the alarm stop going off once the engine is started? If we use the key to unlock the doors on the 96, the alarm sounds until we crank the engine then it goes off. We do not have a key fob to unlock the doors. I think we have like a 10 sec delay once the door opens before it starts alarming.

OSDUCK5, it does not. That's the whole point. It used to. But now, the alarm never stops and the car won't start. That's why I say it's like the car either doesn't recognize the key or it thinks it's being stolen.

i work on these all day long, does the security light flash on the dash when this happens, its possible you have a defective tumbler assy, you will need a tech 11 gm factory tool to verify , hard to do without, a little trick you can try is make sure your battery is fully charged and maybe put one on the car, put the key in the run position and walk away from the vechile for approx 30 min, if the pass lock has lost the memory of the key this will relearn the key for you without the tech 11. good luck

Ok so i am having the same 'security light' issue. I tried the relearn thing, but does it only work in you leave it in the ON for 30 mins? I did 10 mins ON then 10 secs OFF and repeated 3 times because I read somewhere thats what you do. Also any idea how much it would be for defective tumbler assy? (whatever that is, i'm new with cars)
