Default Is this a carb problem?

I have a 68 Camaro that idled to fast so I adjusted the idle screw to bring it down. In gear its around 800 in park 1000. Going down the highway it runs fine and strong. When im at stop or its just idleing it sounds a little rough. I have a 4bbl Carter carb. Does that sounds like a fuel mixture problem? I just got the car a few weeks ago and I didnt want to mess with the mixture without knowing something about it.

Do you have a stock cam or something more radical, a hot cam will give you a lumpy idle. Check for vacuum leaks. Try adjusting the idle mixture. There are a lot of ways to do this. You can use a vacuum gage on the intake manifold and adjust the idle screw for max vacuum & reset the idle speed (repeat until idle speed stops changing). My favorite way is with a tach-dwell meter. Set the tach on the 1000 RPM scale, set idle speed, adjust mixtore screws evenly (same amount of turns) loking for max RPM, adjust idle speed again & adjust mixture again, repat until idle speed no longer increases by adjusting mixture screws. Make sure both idle screws are adjusted the same number of turns .

It could be a timing problem. Check the distributer and see if that helps. You might be a little retarted or advanced. just make sure that the distributer is correct.
Good luck
