Carb Problem... I Think
Ok guys, I got a new intake and carburetor installed on my chevy 402 big block. It's an edelbrock performer 750 on an edelbrock performer intake manifold. I've gotten the engine fired up and timed to "10". For some reason when ever i put the car into drive the engine sounds like it's going to die on me, and if I give it a little gas it backfires a little bit. When I first installed everything it ran like a champ, all I have changed is putting an air cleaner on it. Any information given will be much appreciated. I promise to get better at this stuff so I don't have to bother the forums every other day.
Take the new air cleaner off & see how it runs. If it now runs OK, there is a possibility that the new air cleaner is interfering with the carb likage or choke. (Also, moved thread from computer section).
1. What rpm is your idle set at?
2. What vacuum source is the distributor advance hooked up to?
3. Have you looked for any vacuum leaks, split/loose fitting hoses, open ports on the carb, etc.?
