67 Camaro oil burining issue
Hi all,
67 camaro 350sb non radical cam.
Here is the issue. Last week I swapped out the valve springs and seals with some new ones. I replaced the valve springs with some race springs form comp cams #941 My installed height is around 1.80 and there used to be shims on the intakes for some reason. I had to replace the springs due to massive fatigue. (I could push some of them down with my hand) Now however it is blowing lots of blue smoke especially at idle. Under power it goes away. This was not an issue with the old springs, the only time I would see smoke is when I started it up and then it would go away. Any ideas here would be great!
Seperate issue:
Under quick acceleration there is a hesitation and it is driving me nuts! I am using an 1806 650cfm Edelbrock carb on a Holly contender intake. I have tried all kinds of jet and metering rod setups both lean and rich, I have adjusted the timing everywhere from 8 to 15 btdc. I have messed with the pump linkage in all the settings and still the same hesitation. Other wise the car runs well, but it you hit it fast it will have a .5 sec hesitation. This problem was before and after the valve springs/smoke issue.

RE: 67 Camaro oil burining issue
What type of seals did you get? Did you go from umbrella or teflon to the o-ring style? On older worn heads the umbrella & teflon type keep more oil from the guide and ultimately out of the combustion chamber.

Did you check to make sure the umbrella seal easily clears the inner spring? For reference, your inner spring's inside dia. is .876". Do you know the outer dimension of the seals? Just curious if the springs could be snagging the seals and popping them up?

[&:] from your description your problem is still in the guide seals. as for the hesitation id maybe look at your ignition as it sounds youve spent some time already with the fuel. your carb is matched well enough if not a little large but should give decent performance. what kind of dist. do you have?? whats your total advance?? kurt

RE: 67 Camaro oil burining issue
[&:] welllll your gonna need to back things off a little. 4-8 deg of timing at idle max and 36 deg total advance max. now if the engine prefers to run in the settings you have now we will need to look for other problems. the timing is done with the vacuum to the dist unplugged and then make sure you are hooked to a ported vacuum source on the carb and not a manifold one !! or the problem you described could be the result kurt
