When you shift an auto from 1 to 2, it doesn't shift the transmission into second gear. It allows the transmission to shift into second gear, what this means is that the transmission will shift when it's good and ready to shift, and the only thing you're doing is over-revving your engine and stressing your lower gears.

Furthermore, s stock 305 makes its peak power at 4400 rpm, not 5500.
Posted this in a 3rd-gen thread, should still be mostly applicable.

OH MY GOD YES!!!!

Someone understands!

I've been spending too much time on MF...they all seem to think that if you shift your auto manually while racing, you'll go faster. Because if you force your engine to rev 'til redline, then 'shift' into 2nd, it obviously wasn't the tranny trying to keep you from blowing your engine. It was just your shifting skillz! :P

Shifting auto=allowing tranny to enter next gear...which it usually will do.
Shifting auto while racing=retarded.

I'd call people out on it, but with so few posts they'd probably be like 'K shuddup newb!!11'
