Default Shifter Question

I was pulling the automatic shifter assembly from a 3rd gen camaro (not sure what year). There were two cables, one went to the transmission to shift and the other went up under the dash near the steering column. What is the cable that goes up to the steering column for?

I dont think its the speedometer cable. Its connected to the button on the shifter ****. When you push on the button, the cable gets pulled.

so the cable goes from the shift **** to the dash? if you can get behind the dash check to see if it goes through the firewall. if it stays inside the dash or hooks to an instrument, im lost. but if it goes to something on the engine, it may be a cable that aids in safe shifting, to avoid tranny problems or inefficient shifting.

yea it runs from the shift **** up to under the dash. i dont know if it goes back out the firewall, i dont think it does. it goes from the shift ****, under the carpet to the bottom of the firewall on the drivers side, up the firewall, then up near the steering column, and heads towars the steering wheel and gauges but i loose it uo there. next time i go to the junkyard i will check (probably the weekend)
