Default questions about boring out 305 tpi

I have a 86 305 tpi the #1 cylinder is not firing so I decided to rebuild might as well bore it out with the rebuild went to summit racing for the rebuild kit just wondering whats the best one to go with the option Im looking at now is piton and ring oversize at 0.060in rod bearing and main bearing undersize at 0.010in or 0.25mm is this a good kit to run with or should I select another

As an engine builder, I would recommend that you take the block to your local (quality - not the cheapest) machine shopand have them bore it to whatever cleans up the bores. Stay as small on the overbore as possible. I do a lot of +.020" jobs as I like to keep the wall thickness there. There is very little HP (or none) to be gained in the difference of a +.020" to a +.060" so I believe it is preferable to keep it light on the overbore.

Once he bores the block, he can let you know what to order. By the way, ask him to give you a price because I surprise a lot of my walk in customers when I tell them I can easily match Summit or sometimes even be less. Ask your shop guy before you place your order.

Excellent advice. Too bad a lot of people fail to follow it.
