Default Boring (SP?) out a 3800

A buddy of mine suggested boring (SP?) out my 3800.
I searched and am still puzzled.
How much would it cost to bore out as much as my block can handle?
What kind of power gains would I be looking at?

Thanks guys.

bore out your engine to how much? like 4.0L?

i mean you'll get a bigger engine so you will see some hp gain no doubt about that.

However there is a problem with the stroker kits. It can decrease the safety level of your motor revvin than a stock setup

I am not real familiar with the 3600 engine but in general normal boring out of an engine in itself does not get big power increases. Component choices after the boring can increase power.

Yeah, from what I've learned about this sort of thing, you probably won't see a huge gain just by boring the block. The stroker kit is where the gains come from.

But as stated above, stroking an engine means you lose the ability to rev as high as stock. You could still do it, but that's a recipe for disaster.

But we aren't talking civics, so we know that revving to 122414343 rpms isn't important. [8D]

Thanks for the replys guys, what would I be looking at if I got a stroker kit?
I'm still completely nubbed here btw.
Oh, and this is a DD car with 92k miles =/
But I drive mostly city, so highway mpg or anything like that doesn't really matter.

www.3800stroked.com

Depends on what you plan on doing with it in the long run. There are several different kits on that link.

Great site Stan, thanks very much.
Would this be a safe mod for a DD car with high miles?

Everything that the kit includes becomes new; if you bore the engine, it's like getting a brand new block. Sort of. In a way. It's all the other compnents that you need to worry about.

That probably doesn't answer your question very well. lol.
