Default engine trouble on my '78 Z28

im having trouble with my 78 Z28 with a 350 V8 in it
at around 2300 rpm she starts to get really rough and lurchs forward reaaaaaal bad like ur slamming on the brakes repeatedly
i've checked the plugs and the compression and it's all good
and the i changed the fuel filter
i suspect its the timing but i dont have a timing light so i cant really check it

tell me what you think
any input/suggestions appreciated

Need more info as to what car you got. Stick or auto? Cabed or injected? Cat installed?

yea i had that problem also, like at a certain rpm, mine was 1800, it got really rouch. at that rpm, if you slightly press the gas more, it gets worse, but if you kindof of punp it it will get right up. is that what your problem is like? if so, it was essentially the carburetor. i bought a new one and that problem was gone.

As Timmy mentioned, if your spark & fuel delivery is OK, then you should look at your carburator.

if your just keeping it fairly stock and need a well preforming carb, i would jsut grab an edelbrock 600. but keep checking basics before you do that. there could be a dozen things, how old is the timing chain? may have some slop in it. you can get a standard timing light for like 30 bucks, its worth the money, you will use it again and again.
