engine question for ya
i have a 1974 z28 that i want to rebuild and make a street/strip car. i want around 600-700hp. my question is can i build an engine with that kind of hp with a 350ci engine or am i going to have to go bigger like a 396 or larger?
Approximately what percentage will the car be street driven vs at the track? Are you racing to earn money or for the fun of it?
You can get that HP out of a 350 with a power adder (Supercharger). It will cost you a pretty penny to get set-up.
A 700 hp car will probably not be that street friendly and you might not like it after a period of time.
Most people that I know (even the ones that race professionally) opt to reduce hp when building an engine that will be primarily driven on the street.

It can be done with a 350 without using power adders by using all premium parts. It will need to be a high revving monster (8000 to 9000 RPM) with little low end torque. This will call for very low rear end gearing to get car launched. Look to spend around 10K.
