Default fuel pump trouble 1997 v6

I have 1997 v6 (3800) that won't start most of the time. The only times that it will run, and thats just for a few minutes, is when it has been sitting there for a couple of days. I put some throttle body cleaner in the air intake and it started right away, but died right away. II also changed the fuel filter. I have a feeling that it might be the fuel pump, but I need to know how to be sure before I take it out. Is there a way of troubleshooting the fuel pump while it's inside the tank?

You can also attach a FI pressure gauge on the fuel rail port, turn on the key & see if the pressure comes up to about 45 PSI. The pump will run for 3 seconds & stop unless the engine starts, so you may have to repeat the procedure a few time to get full pressure.
