Default Fuel Injector Question

Hey everyone i just had a quick random question that i was unable to find through google. Do fuel injectors use the gas as a lube, or would be able to use a gaseous type fuel if it didn't use petrol as lube?

There are CNG using using fuel injectors, but the injectors are designed for that purpose. In gasoline & diesel engines the fuel is used to lube and to cool the injectors. Ford sells CNG converted engines for fleet use.

Bah Bummer, now what exactly is CNG?? and i forgot to ask this one, could one run a gaseous fuel through a carb?? cause i know it uses bowls and floats and i didn't know if that would be affected and such.

cool just found some LGP carbs from searching some more so i guess i just answered my own question. but i'm still curious if a carb could handle a gaseous fuel like LPG or hydrogen.

no a carb needs a fluid to work correctly. lp needs a pressure related supply that is contained, no outside vent.

CNG is compressed natural gas, LPG is liquefied petroleum gas (propane). LPG is liquid under low pressure (around 70 PSI) while CNG is a gas under very high pressure (around 3000 PSI). Both work OK with carbs with the proper size jets and proper pressure regulators. Both fuels contain much less energy than gasoline and fuel usage will be proportionally higher. Using these fuels an engine designed for gasoline will result in much less power; however, some power could be regained if the compression ratio was raised to take advantage of the very high octane of these fuels.

oh awesome so carbs can work that's really good to hear. the main reason why i was wondering if FI and or carbs could take a gaseous fuel is because i've made a system where i can produce H-H-O on the fly and plus some and i was going to make a whole house generator out of it. the system i'm going to go into because it is complicated and there's some info that it wouldn't be a good idea to give out to the public.

i know that Hydrogen has a higher calorie rating than Gas, LP, NG, and diesel and a few others so the larger jets may not be needed, i might have to get smaller ones if anything from what it sounds like.
