1968 camaro hei upgrade problems

Default 1968 camaro hei upgrade problems

I am upgrading to hei from points ,the distributor is off a 1984 chevy g20 van .It is going on a 327 .i replaced cap rotor plugs new 7prong ignition module i get no spark .there are other wires that used to go to the vans ecm .Could it be i need a4 prong ignition module for this distributor to work . I dont have a tach yet so i have not plugged in the wire on the distributor.But i think the body if the would ground it .Right? need some help .

Yes you will need a 4 prong module from an earlier HEI. It fits right in. You'll have an extra 4 wire harness coming out of the dist. housing which won't be hooked up to anything. I chose to clip the wires but left the grommet in placetoplug moisture from entering the dist. After that just connect theIgn. terminal to your key,make sure your bolted tight for a good ground and your set.You can bench test your work prior to installation. Grab a battery and connect the ign. topos, ground thedist housing to neg. andplace a piece of steel about 1/2" away from the dist. terminalsand spin the dist. gear.You can watch all eight terminals fire.Make sure you ground the piece of steel so you don't get a zapper.
