what brand would you recommend?
don't forget that you need to get a an amp that will run the same ohm as your sub. I have seen lots of people blow subs by getting a 4 ohm(standard ohm rating) sub and run an amp that only has 2 ohm capabilities.
Most amps now days are going to be stable down to 1 ohm, so they will work with 8/6/4/2/1 ohm setups. It's usually when you start getting below 1 ohm you have to watch your step.
Don't waste your money on those Pioneers that Green posted. I bought one for walmart for my Jeep, was never really satisfied with it, so I upgraded to a Kicker CVR12 bought brand new on ebay for IIRC about $85 shipped. NIGHT AND DAY DIFFERENCE! My amp is a little underpowered for it even with it bridged, however it still hits hard inside that big Jeep with a typical slot ported box. Most people that get in would swear I have at least two 12's back there.
I am running that Pioneer in my Camaro right now in a sealed box, bridged at about 150 watts RMS and it hits reasonably well. Mids sound pretty good, however it gets sloppy on the lows. For the $30 some dollar price difference, I would recommend the Kicker CVR12 as an entry level sub, as it hits just as well as some subs twice it's price.
