Default V6 power loss, light on

Ok all, im asking this on behalf of a friend who drives a 98 V6.

The car recently had the dash light come on and a noticable reduction in power, also has a bit of trouble starting in the morning after a damp night or if it has been left for a week or so. But this could just be a weak battery.

Many way, WE CANNOT get it scanned, we live in the UK and the nearest place is 150miles away. How can we get the codes or find out what it is without having to replace all the o2 sensors, spark plugs, temp sensors, wires etc as it could get expensive. The car is OBDII i believe

thanks

You would be lucky if a basic tune up you described would fix this problem. It could be one of 100 different parts or the wires that connect them. Many times when you get a lite on and reduction in power it is because the computer sees something out of what it conciders normal. The fuel mapping goes to LHM (Limp Home Mode). Since a fuel or timing error could damage the engine LHM ensure a safe fuel map. With LHM you will get poor MPG and low power.

You could get a manual and start testing each sensor and driven componets. It would like finding a needle in a hay stack. Sometimes these types of problems with fully trained, fully equipt mechanic can be a problem to figure out. Sometimes you scan for codes It tells you what sensor is causing a problem. You test the sensor to verify its bad and replace it.

yer i usually do all work on my car but dontlive near my friend so cant take a look. Most arages are reluctant to look or as soon as you say its american the cost majically doubles. Its just a car.

anyway, is there a way i could tell then to do a bulb test? on the obd plug that relates to codes?

I think they will have to mae to trip and get it scanned, its prob going to be cheapest

OBDII needs a scanner or at least a code reader to pull the codes. Code readers are cheap, but can only read trouble codes.
