Default Temp Guage acting strange

My temp guage in my 1994 V-6 is acting up. When the car is off it appears to read the proper temp, but as soon as I turn the ignition forward the needle get buried below 160 then slowly climbs up but not all the way. Help

Your guage is an electric guage. They suck due to the fact that they are so inaccurate. I just put in a new oil pressure sending unit, and it is now saying I am getting 110 psi of oil...More than likely your sending unit needs to be replaced.

There are two on your car. One is for the computer. One is for the gauge. Make sure you change the right one.

My thoughts exactly. 1998+ cars use a single temperature sending unit that sends the signal to both the PCM and indicator.

I had that problem also a couple of months ago. My check engine light came on with it, but when i scanned it, i didn't get a code returned. So I just reset it and the temp gauge started working properly again. haven't had an issue since.
