Suspension Issues.

Suspension Issues.
So everyone who rides in my car notices that my car rocks front to back A LOT when I shift. One guy said "you let the gas off too soon when shifting". So I let him drive it. It does the same thing when he drives it. I know how to drive my car lol. Anyways, the front end dips way down when I shift while accelerating quickly. Then raises way up when I hit 2nd gear. Any ideas??? Thanks guys!

Weight transfer is going to occur during any form of acceleration. When you hit the gas the weight goes to the rear of the car and the rear suspension squats from it, once you reach the speed you desire the inertia is less and the weight balances out and the suspension can raise back up. When you shift you stop accelerating as fast so the inertia lowers enough for the rear springs to push back up and the front to lower (weight moves forward). This also effects the front suspension by moving the weight to the rear you allow the front springs to push up more than normal. This is all normal, all vehicles do it, and I do mean all, it is Newton's Laws of Motion. Now you can minimize this with stiffer springs and suspension geometry, but that is expensive and difficult to minimize. Watch some Drag races and see how those cars react to acceleration, you will see the same thing. Even if you drive an automatic it does this but since an auto trans shifts much faster than any human could shift a manual the weight transfer back forward between shifts is minimal.

How many miles on the shocks? Even if relatively low miles, you would be well-advised to replace De Carbon/Delphi stock shocks with SLP Bilsteins on all fours, or even better Koni SAs...
Your brakes will be less effective if your shocks are bad also. If your car is not sagging, your springs should be ok.

I'm not sure how many miles the shocks have on them. The springs are good though. I bought the car with 173xxx. right now it has 187xxx. I know that the car should do this under heavy acceleration. But it seems worse than any other 5-speed car I've been in. Everyone says it's bad when they ride in my car. I'm not sure what to think of it.

I got my 97 RS for 500 dollars, sure I had to put in a new motor because the other one knocked but that was only 150 dollars for a local on the west side of Oahu, lets just say I am pretty sure was stoned for a few days after I paid him.
I took the motor, transmission, lower and upper control arms, struts, crossmember and a few odds and ends all for 150 dollars.
