Stock Gears
Hey all!! I am new here and have a question. I have 1999 3.8L V6 Camaro that i love. I have a K&N CAI with Flowmaster Cat-back exhaust. I was wondering what the stock rear-end gears where and what you guys might reccommend as far as gearing for some more acceleration. Thanks
I am not quite sure, but here are some codes you can check to see if you have.
GU2 Axle, Rear 2.73 Ratio
GU3 auto tranny,
GU4 Axle, Rear 3.08 Ratio
GU5 Axle, Rear 3.23 Ratio
GU6 Axle, Rear 3.42 Ratio
G80 Axle, Rear Posi-traction (Limited Slip)
Check and see if you can find any of these. Sorry I don't know where to look though. My guess would be either in the driver's side door, or under the hood. Hope this helps and let us know.

Ok i looked on the driver side door and saw a sticker with a bunch of codes on them. I saw this code GU4. So it appears i have 3.08 in the rear? Would this be correct? What would you guys reccommend i get for some better acceleration, but want totally kill my top end or make the rpms really high at 70-80mph
Thanks alot man. I am going to go with the 3.73. I also have another question. Will i need a tuner? I work at a Car Inpection Center and one of the mechanics said i would prob need a tuner to correct my guages and some other stuff that may occure from the gear change. Also i was looking into hypertech tuners but could not find one to fit my car. I looked everywhere for one that would fit my 99 3.8L V6. I could only find year 2000 and up. Will that one work or do i need the one specifically for my year? Thanks
I'm not sure they have a tuner for your car. I saw the Hypertech one, and it said it will not work with any other years. I did some looking and found a website that sell a speedo recalibrator (Click Here...). If nothing else you can always go to a dyno tuner and have them recalibrate it for you. I think you will be very pleased with your decision. Enjoy!
