Still? New? noise after axle bearings replaced. Ujoint?
2000, V6, 96k
Well, it took a week to complete the rear axle bearings and seals.
I still need to replace the seals at both ends of the driveshaft (and a list of other things), I couldn’t get enough room under the car to pull the driveshaft and ordered a bigger jack and more stands.
After my test drive, I still have a repetitive noise issue, but now it happens only during acceleration, whereas before, it was during any movement and louder. I still do not have any vibrations or clunking noises (from driveline). I also replaced all 4 tires (they were 10 years old).
Q: What can I check for the cause of this noise?
I can’t feel any movement in the ujoints at either end by hand, but I’m thinking I should replace them while the driveshaft is out for the seals. My biggest concern is how to remove the plastic inserts.
Q: Will a heat gun work for removing the plastic inserts? I don’t own a torch (yet?).
Other items I plan to do/change (already bought):
- Fuel filter
- A/T fluid/filter and replace hydraulic mount
- Torque arm bushings
- Brake flush
- Power steering flush and in-line filter install
- Suspension items:
- F/R sway bar endlinks
- F lower control arms
- F outer tie rod ends
- Intermediate steering shaft (is making a clunking noise at the ujoint where it connects to the rack)
Any tips/advice would be appreciated.
