Odd Drive train Noise, Please Help

Default Odd Drive train Noise, Please Help

I have owned my camaro for 4 years or so, and have had hardly any problems. Just recently, the car now has an odd noise when you move at all. it doesnt matter what speed. it gets higher pitched as you go so its not as noticeable at higher speeds. it sounds like a bearing or something whining. like you can hear it rotate every time and faster and slower. it is not the tires because it doesnt matter what kind of terrain, i took the cover off of the rear end and there were very very little shavings everything looks normal so it didnt seem like it could be a bearing in there. i thought maybe a wheel bearing but i dont know. my mechanic was no help, i did remove the drive shaft and found a dry carrier bearing and paid to have that replaced and it didnt effect it. however when i put the car on jack stands and run it it kinda sounds like it is coming from maybe the back of the tranny. is there a bearing or soemthing in there? i have almost exhausted every area. Please HElp!

There is a bearing right before the rear trans pinion seal. It could be that one. I would recomend getting a stethascope.

That bearing inside the trans seal is a bushing kinda bearing. Not a roller type and with the fluid that gets to it I dont think it would make noise. Do you have a brake dragging? Or maybe an axle bearing making noise?

I'm betting on a bad U-joint in the drive shaft. I'll even go as far as saying the front one. Try this: On level ground, car in neutral engine idling step on the brakes and shift into reverse then drive. You'll probably hear 2 klunks, one from the differential, and one from the front U-joint.

You can also get rid of that 2 piece shaft and use a single shaft. Co-worker did that with his 97 F-bird with no ill effects.
