so my camaro shuts down randomly
My camaro has for the past 2 months has been shutting down randomly. I believe it all started when I made a dumb decision to fill my tank in Tijuana when the gas was like 5 bucks a gallon. my car has 97k miles and has no CAT because the old one clogged and I havent gotten around to buying the a new one. when i am on the street or wherever it will drive like normal and everything, even if i step on it it will respond like new, but occassionaly when I am driving it will stop responding and slowly shut down. It starts shaking a little and the dash lights dim down and back up and most of the time it will eventually shut down. Sometimes i can just put the car in Neutral and it will turn back on instantly but sometimes it just takes quite a few minutes. Today i got worried the most because when this happened to me heading to work a red light that said "no engine power" or something like that turned on. anyways hopefully that is enough information so I can get some help.
it is a 2000 v6 camaro and thanks in advance!

Sounds very odd and tough to diagnose. Since the dash lights dim I'm going to lean more towards and electrical issue with this one. I don't think it's your gas. I'm guessing you've got a short in your electrical system somewhere. I would also guess that it's in the vicinity of the battery. A loose positive or negative cable. Pull both cables, put electrolytic tune up grease on both posts and then tighten them both back into the battery. Also pop the positive cable protector. It's a red cap with a plus on it that is attached right behind the battery. At least that's where it is on the '93. Anyway check the wire attachments underthere for corrosion (Green buildup) use a wire brush and remove that. Put a thin coat of tune up grease on those connections and tighten it back up. Why put tune up grease on these? 1 it stops the corrosion and 2 it ensures electrical contact. If neither of these solves the issue then then next thing to look at is your alternator. In actuality that's probably the culprit, but the cable things you can do without much effort so try those first. Best of luck and let us know what you find out!
go to an autozone and get your codes read. im sure your SES light is on because of the no cat thing, but there will probably be other codes as well. could be a faulty cam position sensor. when I was tinkering with mine i screwed up the sensor and it would die on me intermittantly.
well after talking with the wife and planning for children soon, I had to make the decision to get a family car. As we all know what that means I had to sacrifice my camaro over the weekend
nowapparently i am the "proud" owner of a 08 mazda6... i just keep telling my self ill get my camaro back once I become a cop. stupid damn dealer only gave me 2000 bucks because it was salvage
, but anyways my problem turned out to be the oil filter. thanks a lot guys!
