Default remove 3800 cylinder heads

2001 3800 V6 overheated. May have blown head gasket. Can cylinder heads be removed while engine still in compartment? Access looks tough.

i was actually thinking about this yesterday...to my eye i dont see the heads coming out with the motor still in, just not enough room...really only have about 3 inches or so free space over the head. if it is possible,it wont be easy

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Engine deep in compartment. Anyone else have experience?

Yes, I removed my heads while the engine was still in place. You have to remove the heads in order to pull the engine out from the top. Not enough room otherwise. Its quit a bit of work, but it can be done.
