Default putting oil in A/C compressor

We just picked up a compressor from bone yard for the 96, stopped by Advanced to get the oil for the compressor. The compressor we picked up is empty of oil. Question is, do we just pour the oil in the compressor or is there a particular procedure for putting the oil in it. We just want to get the compressor back on the car so we can take it to get it pulled down and recharged. Thanks for any help.

Empty out the oil from the original compressor. Add that much to the used compressor. I would go plus 10% cause you will never get it all out. That is unless yor are replacing the dryer receiver. If you are then you should blow everything thing out and put a full oil charge in.

Ok, thanks Gorn. Only problem is I traded in the old compressor and didn't even think about how much oil was in it. I bought a 8 oz can and I poured in little over half. Turned the compressor by hand several times before attaching the lines back up. Hopefully, that is enough. This has been one of those days I should have just thought about what I need to do instead of actually trying to get it done. Wrestling with an O2 cell now and can't get that thing broke loose for nothing. Soaking in PB right now hoping for better results tomorrow.

From THe GM manual 1996.

Compressor replaced

If less then 30 Ml (1 fluid ounce) is drained add 60 Ml (2 ounces)

If more then 30 Ml (1 fluid ounce) is drained add the same amount to the compressor.

It did say the compressor could hold up to 4 ounce in its crank case.
