pretty much nothing, opti will work would need to leave the crank sensor in or plug the hole if it has one. i have a 96 intake, rack and front cover for newer style fuel delivery and vented opti. you will need the 96 opti harness that goes from the opti to the plugin on the passenger side of the intake. it will plug right in the 94 harness.

Can you splain? From my limited knowledge, I understand the only big differnence between OBD1 & 2 is the number of sensors (post cat O2 being one I know of)...and the OBD connector (12 pin vs 16 pin)....None of this makes any difference?

The 96 engine is OBD2 compatible only because it has a separate crank sensor in the timing chain cover, which is used for diagnostic purposes. But that feature is not going to be used when put into an OBD1 car. The old and new style opti still sends the same ignition signal.

ah...cool. Another option then for me when it comes to rebuild time. I'm not limited to 94 engines. I could put up to a 96 and not have to worry about swapping harnesses and stuff like that.

Thanks for the help i changed the distributor wire from a 94 to a 96 wire and it fired right up. I didnt know that the plug in is different. 94 plug in wire is shorter and wont make a connection but still will plug in but need 96 wire to make the connection. Thanks for help. P.s only thing that i changed for it to fire

i think the longer plugin is an attempt to do away with the moisture problem with water gettin in that short plugin.
