power steering pump
The beginning part of this story really doesn't count..i just tell it for effect. So there I was..driving down a paved county road, when I come upon a UPS truck going slow as hell. "I'll just pass it" I say, and pass it I did. Just as I start pulling back into my lane, the t-top goes flying off my car and into a field (my girlfriend did not latch it when she didn't put it back in..luckily it didn't break) as you might imagine, I'm mad as hell so I pull over, wait for the UPS truck to go back by, and whip the car around to go get it, and when I did so, the rod in the power steering pump snapped right in half...and NOW for my question..is there a break in time for these pumps or something? It is still making that whining noise like a pump that is low on fluid, and it's concerning me a bit..I don't want to have to replace two of these things. It's a 2000 w/ a 3.8 if it matters..

Check the fluid level to make sure it's where it's posed to be.
The pump should self-bleed if there is any air in it. Sit still and do a few lock-to-locks and see if that helps.
Oh, and did the UPS driver laugh at you as he went by? You got lucky.
