Well looks like you were right. Still leaked when I used rtv and gasket. I will try just the gasket and see how that works.

clean oil off the gasket area with brake cleaner on a clean rag.

I can tell you I did this about three times, the first two I thought it was my manifolds an such, but the faithful forum guided me, O-ring and gasket, you should be ok!
