Default Oil filter

I did a search, but I was not able to find this information for 3.8 here. Maybe my search-fu is failing me.

A lot of vehicles have an oil filter available that is the same as the stock one, but longer. They typically spec the shorter ones for assembly convenience. I tend to think that bigger filter means more filtration surface. 3.8 V6 is no exception. It probably is the best motor for using a larger filter on. There is so much room in front of the 3.8, you could fit a small oil refinery in there.

AC Delco is OE, I use WIX, you can find other brands by the part number interchange. AC Delco has filters with E suffix (P47E). E means it has a plastic internal basket instead of metal, and is otherwise the same as the filter of the same number with no E. I guess it stands for Economy.

Original spec filter:
AC Delco PF47
WIX 50140

Extended filter:
AC Delco PF52
WIX 51036

The longer filter fits with no issue.

Love it, thanks.
I would not put anything AC Declo on my car anymore. I'm tired of the Chinese crap failing right out if the box. Happened with my alternator (easy fix) and fuel pump (pain in the ***).

I have been using the ac delco pf52 filter since i bought my 94 new. I also believe that the "E" means extended life. I don't drive her that much anymore. More like a driveway queen. I change the oil once a year now regardless of miles, which is around 2-3k.
